1 Day Left Until the Marathon – What I’m eating those final hours….
No, I’m not running the ING New York City Marathon……It’s time for the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon! This is a great weekend to run a marathon.
Here’s what I’m eating to prepare:
6:45 am – Cinnamon raisin English muffin topped with 2 tsp honey, 6 oz low fat yogurt topped with 1/2 c. strawberries and blueberries, a cup of coffee, and ice water. It’s about 87 grams of carbohydrates.
10:00 am – One cup of Total cereal with 1/2 c. of skim milk. It provides about 37 grams of carbohydrates.
12:45 pm – A turkey sandwich with 2 hearty slices of honey oat bread, a slice of Swiss cheese, 2 ounces of lean turkey, spinach, tomato, and spicy mustard. With this I had crackers topped with a mixed berry preserves and a cup of apple cider. This adds about 89 grams of carbohydrates to the day.
3:00 pm – 2 fig bars with another 8 oz glass of apple cider. This adds another 70 grams of carbohydrates to the day.
5:20 pm – I ate this PowerBar right after the elite athlete meeting at the expo. It provides 45 grams of carbohydrates.
5:30 – I ate this banana a little later on our ride back. It provides about 27 grams of carbohydrates.
6:40 pm – I guess you could call this my grand finale. For dinner I had about 1 1/3 cup of a pasta with lightly sauteed onion, tomatoes, yellow pepper, spinach, garlic, basil and topped with parmesan cheese. I ate 2 pieces of French bread (no butter) and drank about 20 ounces of water. This meal packed a whopping 154 grams of carbohydrates.
My total carbohydrate count for the day ……about 509 grams.
I’ve been drinking plenty fluids throughout the day in addition to mealtime fluids.
I’m feeling ready to race!
