Why I Keep a Stash of These on Hand
I like to keep a supply of Horizon Vanilla or Chocolate Milk boxes on hand for several reasons.
First, look where I took this photo. It’s not in the refrigerator – It’s in my pantry. I love the option that I don’t have to keep this milk chilled. This makes it fantastic for travelling, unless it would be in the car on a warm day. Then I would pack it on ice. It suggests to chill it before serving, but there have been many occasions that I drank it at room temperature.
Second, flavored milk is a great recovery option after hard or long workouts. It’s a good source of carbohydrates to replace depleted glycogen stores. It’s also a good source of protein to facilitate the repair of damaged muscle tissue.
Third, I tend to stock up when it’s on sale. I often buy them when they are on sale for a dollar each. Another great option is to hit the convenient store and grab flavored milk there after a hard effort.
Lastly, it’s a great way to rehydrate. Sometimes I tire of just plain water. This way I refuel my body with carbohydrates, protein, and fluids all at the same time.
Such a beverage can be packed in luggage or tossed in my gym bag. It tastes great and goes down smooth when my appetite isn’t necessarily there after a hard run. Not to mention, my kids love it!
Look in the juice or shelf stable milk aisles to find Horizon Milk single servings. You might even find them on sale in a bin in the middle or end of the aisle. I don’t recommend buying them chilled and storing them in the pantry.
