Dietitians Eat Chocolate Too!
I just discovered such a tasty chocolate treat. Yes, Dietitians eat chocolate too! The oversized bag I found at the bulk food store may be overkill, but it’s such a delightful combination of dark chocolate AND pumpkin seeds!
OK, let’s size up the amount of damage that may take place. There are 11 servings in this massive bag. That actually sounds quite reasonable to me. I thought it would read more like 20 servings. I can’t say I worry too much about the 230 calorie load. Someone looking for weight management may want to size down on this 230 calorie treat, but it fits just fine with my high calorie demands. Uh Oh, the red flag with this delicious treat is the 14 grams of fat, of which 7 grams are from saturated fat.
Obviously I still bought the bag. 🙂
Let’s consider the positives. Most days of the week I reach for a couple pieces of saturated fat-rich dark chocolate. Dark chocolate shouldn’t replace a good meal, but it does offer as a source of heart healthy flavanols. A bonus is that these thin pieces of 65% cacao dark chocolate contain pumpkin seeds. Pumpkins seeds offer as a source of healthy fat, magnesium, zinc, vitamin E, and so much more. Take a look at that, there’s 15% of the daily value in iron per serving and 7 grams of protein from my chocolate treat!
The fat load as I mentioned above isn’t a huge threat to my diet because most often my diet contains a low amount of saturated fat and is a reasonable fat load relative to my daily calorie needs.
This is certainly a snack I will really enjoy in moderation!
Can’t find Bark Thins at the store?
Why not toss a small handful of pumpkin seeds with a couple pieces dark chocolate?
