Hot and Cold Contrast – Delicious!
Toast is a fantastic option for fueling everyday and demanding training sessions. Creative toast toppings beyond the typical butter and jam offer the balance that will support necessary repair from today’s workout and refuel for tomorrow’s workout.
This tasty toast example worked great after my warm weather training session. The slice of toasted oat bran bread is topped with strawberry preserves, low fat cottage cheese, and a drizzle of honey. A couple slices of this toast made for a delicious recovery treat after a warm and demanding training session.
Why it Works:
Eating carbohydrate sources such as the oat bread, strawberry preserves, and honey soon after a depleting workout facilitates reloading carbohydrate energy stores for the next day of training. Cottage cheese serves as a source of protein to support a speedy recovery and stimulates tissue development to strengthen future workouts. Cottage cheese is also rich in sodium and a source of potassium, great for replenishing electrolytes lost during a heavy sweating summer training session.
I love the contrast of warm toast with cold cottage cheese – delicious!
