Feel Good Smoothie

The bitter flavor of kale can be intimidating for many people. Kale is rich in so many nutrients, making it worth including in the diet often. Consider grabbing a package of baby kale to kick-start your kale eating habits. Tossing the baby kale in a feel good smoothie like the one below can support getting comfortable with this nutritionally potent cruciferous vegetable in a more flavor friendly manner.
Kale Smoothie
- 1 c. baby kale
- 1/2 banana
- 2 tbsp. walnuts, chopped
- 1-2 Medjool dates
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 c. ice
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Add 1-2 dates based on preferred smoothie sweetness. Blend until smooth and serve.
Recipe makes 1 serving.
Each serving is approximately 235 calories, 10 grams of fat, 33 grams of carbohydrate, 3.5 grams of fiber, and 4.5 grams of protein

The kale just scares me. Do the Dates and Banana make it sweet so you aren’t tasting the kale?
You can always subsitute with spinach if you really wanted to. Otherwise, try starting with baby kale since it’s less bitter. I find it Costco and Meijer. Yes, the banana and dates sweeten it up. You can add an extra Medjool date if you give it a taste and prefer a sweeter smoothie.
