It’s Been a While…
I recently realized at the grocery store that it has been a while since I purchased a box of Dr. Praeger’s veggie burgers from the freezer section. We used to really enjoy firing a few of the veggie burgers on the grill, but have gotten away from purchasing them. They work great as a burger, but they have kind of a corn pancake taste that makes them also work as a nice side item.
They contain 110 calories, 5 grams of fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 250 mg sodium, 13 grams carbohydrates, 4 gram fiber, and 5 grams protein per burger.
You would never guess that the first ingredient is carrots. There are many great vegetable ingredients hidden in this burger. It could work well for those who prefer to mask vegetables in their food. It works great for kids too!
The outside of the burger can get a yummy, crunchy coating when grilled or baked in the oven. It adds a wonderful texture to this quick and easy meal option.
They are delicious! I’m glad I picked up a box.

Where can you buy them? They look awesome
They are sold all over. I picked these up at Whole Foods, but I believe they are at Kroger’s (health food section), Meijer, Fresh Market, etc. We really like them! You will have to let me know what you think.
Awesome, thank you!
Hm they look alluring from a health food perspective, although not too nutritionally dense; maybe that the doing of the vegetables which provide fibre and vitamin standpoint. But as a burger it would seem that their main provision should be in protein, which is quite low! Tempting buy, but I’d pass on the basis of them being so low in protein.
Thanks for the great perspective, Mel! I feel a meal is never made or broken by any one single item. By the time you sandwich this veggie burger between two slices of quality bread and top it with a slice of cheese, the burger sandwich offers about 21 grams of protein. The fact that is carries 14% iron is worth noting from a “burger” standpoint as well. That’s more iron than a 3 ounce grilled chicken breast carries and the same amount of iron as 3 ounces of lean beef. I also mentioned it can work as a side item, especially for those who have trouble eating their veggies in a more fresh form. I find with most any food, it’s all in how you use it; but I completely appreciate that this item may not top your list
Great point about the combination of foods and their final protein content, and wow that is high in Iron (albeit not heme!!) but nonetheless you’re totally right, over and out it’s a good buy on the market!
Ha! I think it’s a tasty, nice option…but please don’t feel I’m saying it’s for everyone. I completely understand if you prefer fresh veggies and heme sources of iron. Thanks again for offering your views of the product!
